Acting legend Robert De Niro is still pumping out big roles some 55 years after he made his credited feature film debut in a 1968 Brian De Palma called Greetings. Of course, he would rise to stardom just a few years later when he partnered with long-time collaborator Martin Scorsese in Mean Streets for the first of 10 projects (including the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon due out later this year). On May 26, he will be starring opposite Sebastian Maniscalco in the comedian's passion project About My Father. The actor will be looking to tap into some of his more humorous roles in the film about an Italian son (Maniscalco) who falls for an American girl and is desperate to make a good first impression with her conservative but eccentric upper-class family. The challenge will be overcoming the anachronistic idiosyncrasies of his very demonstrative Italian father Salvo (De Niro). It has a Meet the Parents vibe only this time it will be De Niro who must make the adjustments as he will be a fish out of water in the very stuffy and starched-collar atmosphere. The actor has proven that he can adjust to more light-hearted roles over the years, but make no mistake, De Niro is a master at his craft and will be taking his latest role very seriously. Some of what you can expect to see in About My Father was on full display in one of the best scenes the decorated actor has ever shot back in 1995 when he sat down in a diner across from fellow auteur Al Pacino in the Michael Mann thriller Heat.
